Top Sporting Events in 2017

Although 2016 has set a high bar to beat when it comes to sport, 2017 won't disappoint. With half of the world flying to Belfast to compete in hockey, football, golf and even basketball tournaments, you are sure to find something that will float your boat!

2017 Ice Hockey World Championship

23 - 29 April
SSE Arena, Belfast

The World Championship is hosted by Ice-Hockey UK for the first time in 25 years when the international ice hockey tournament takes place at the SSE Arena, this April. Team GB are the host nation and will be joined by Japan, Netherlands, Lithuania, Croatia and Estonia for a festival of ice hockey in Belfast as the six nations play 15 games for gold, silver and bronze. Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon

1 May
Belfast City Centre

Are you up for a challenge of the year, with a chance of supporting a charity? Then join in with the 36th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon, taking place on May Day Bank Holiday, 1 May 2017. The marathon is the biggest single participatory sporting event in Northern Ireland and over 17,500 runners are expected to hit the streets of north, south, east and west of the city. Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia Northern Ireland

24 Hour World Championships

UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship

8 - 20 August
Windsor Park, Belfast

After an eventful year of football in 2016, Northern Ireland will play host to the 2017 finals of the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championships where eight national teams, including Northern Ireland as hosts, will participate in the prestigious 16 day tournament at venues across the country. Women's Rugby World Cup 2017

9 - 26 August
Kingspan Stadium, Belfast

Belfast will play host to the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup, with the semi-finals and finals taking place in the city between 22 - 26 August. Cheer the 12 teams competing across 30 matches to determine the world champions of women's rugby! 12 out of 16 matches will take place in the heart of Belfast, the Queen's University Sport and Kingspan Stadium. Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon

17 September

Are you not quite ready for a full marathon but still want to challenge yourself? Then this event will be right up your alley! The fifth Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 17 September 2017, starting at 9am from Ormeau Park and finishing at the same location. Friendship Four Ice Hockey Tournament

24 - 25 November
SSE Arena, Belfast

The Northern Irish Connections Friendship Four Ice Hockey Tournament is returning to Belfast with four new colleges from the US competing at the SSE Arena for the Belpot Trophy. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Clarkson University, Providence College and the University of Maine will travel to Belfast on 24 and 25 November for the tournament. Read more >>

Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic

1 - 2 December

Calling all basketball fans! The first-ever Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic, a college basketball tournament is coming to the SSE Arena this winter.
